Running Update

September 21, 2009

The Royal Victoria Marathon is less than 3 weeks away and I just peaked in my training routine with a 32km run yesterday. While I had ambitions of running this marathon significantly faster than my first, I doubt I’ll be able to shave off much time.

The brutal reality is that training for a marathon takes an absolutely ridiculous amount of time (yes – every single adjective in that sentence was required). In order for me to really improve I’d have to be willing to run for more than 6 hours a week. I’m horrible at cheating on my training schedules and most certainly this is causing my poor marathon performance. All I can manage is 3 runs a week with 10-14km on Tues/Thurs and 18-32km on Sundays. Perhaps I’d be better off sticking to half-marathons and just working on my speed.

Anyways – Victoria marathon… 3 weeks away. Should be fun.

Also… some races I did over the summer that I didn’t talk about here.

June – Longest Day Road Race 10km – 50:21
June – Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon – 1:48:12 (an amazing personal-best)
July – Billy Barker Days Fun Run 12.6km – 1:03:xx

September 14, 2009
Thumbnail image for WikiInvaders – Post Mortem

I casually played with the idea of participating in Mini-LD #12 last week but never actually made up my mind. When the theme was announced I decided to give it a bit more thought. Theme: Wikipedia  Bonus-Theme: Duke Nukem Forever Over dinner and drinks Friday night a game idea came to me. A Space Invaders [...]

Project Z – Status Update

September 9, 2009

Last Wednesday, before PAX, I got very little done on Project Z. Packing, house cleaning, and overall PAX excitement simply got in the way. Thursday I spent 4 hours on the Amtrak. Thanks to comfortable seating and a 120v outlet I was able to get some work done. I wrote a simple messaging class that [...]

Well I had all these ambitions of blogging about PAX as it happened. Guess that went out the window. It was a great weekend and here are some highlights. Thursday: Meeting up with fellow Canadian travelers for some Cheesecake Factory goodness was great fun. Then I was off to the Pre-PAX Dinner which was prime [...]

Weapon Pickups

September 2, 2009

I made less progress than I was hoping for yesterday. My major accomplishment was getting weapon pick-ups working. The weapon pick-up object tracks the hero and does a nice subtle alpha blend as the hero approaches. Once the hero gets within 32 pixels of the pick-up object, the object calls a changeWeapon() function in the [...]
