Terminal City Rollergirls Fresh-Meat try-outs are on August 22nd and I fear that the next month is going to just blaze past.

Next weekend: Pride
August 7th: TCRG Championship Bout
August 15th: Pre-Fresh-Meat Workshop
August 22nd: Try-outs

Yup, my whole August is spoken for.

Last night’s Raw Meat Skate Night was just as epic as I was hoping. I’ve been chatting with Tiki TimeBomb for the last month trying to get her out to one of our sessions. She worked on a lesson plan for us and brought with her several other TCRG skaters to act in a coaching capacity. The lesson started with everyone working on the very basics of skating, breaking down the nuances of stride and posture. Then we focused on cross-overs, again focusing on the individual elements before pulling them together.

Next we split into two groups. Group 1 continued to focus on skating basics while group 2 barrelled forward with new drills.

We started practicing stops. T-Stops and Plows. Then falls: one knee, two knee, and baseball slide. Finally, group 2 worked on pace lines and proximity skating.

It was just amazing having such strong skaters there to give us feedback and critique minor things. The only downside is that the 90minutes went by far too quickly.

I’m pretty confident that I have all the skills I need for try-outs down fairly well. But I can’t get cocky. Anything can happen on try-out day and I only have 1 chance at this.

This weekend a few Raw Meat friends and I traveled to Seattle to skate with the PFM Practice Squad. It was an incredible experience. The travel down was great because it gave the 4 of us a chance to really connect. I’ve only known Ginny, Amy and Wendi for a month so it was great [...]

Summer is Here

July 6, 2010

After what felt like the worst May and June weather Vancouver has ever experienced summer seems to finally be arriving. We’re expected to get a minor heat wave this week with temperatures reaching 30c. I’m not a huge fan of hot weather but after the emo-weather Vancouver has been delivering lately I think I’ll live. [...]
